This recipe is so simple. It all came about because I was out of Brown Sugar. Since I had all the ingredients…….why not make my own. This way it’s always fresh and organic. Here’s all you need….
1 Cup Organic Cane Sugar
1 TBS Organic Unsulphured Blackstrap Molasses
In a food processor and your ingredients. Pulse on high for 2-3 minutes.
Label and store in an air- tight container.
Now you will always have Brown Sugar at your fingertips in no time at all. It can be used immediately. The day I made the Brown Sugar I used it in my Cinnamon Roll recipe.
Enjoy & Until Next Time,
My daughter loves when I make these for her. Usually, I fry them…so my goal this time was to put a bit of a healthier spin on my old recipe. For the fried recipe click here.
Now, let’s dive into this new recipe and start baking.
1/4 cup warm water (about 100 F)
2 1/4 tsp of active dry yeast (or 1 packet)
3 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 tsp sea salt
3 Tbs sugar + 1/2 tsp
1/2 tsp of Vanilla Extract
5 Tbs Organic Vegetable Shortening
3/4 cup almond milk + 1 Tbs of white vinegar (mix together well)
1. Combine the yeast, warm water and the 1/2 tsp of sugar in a small bowl and set aside for 5 minutes. ( It should look foamy.)
2. In a food processor or large bowl combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar. Cut your vegetable shortening into the flour mixture, until it resembles coarse sand.
3. Add the yeast, egg, vanilla and the Almond Milk mixture. Stir together to form a soft dough ball. Next on a floured surface knead your dough for about a minute.
4. Spray a bowl with cooking spray and place your dough ball in and let it rise for 45 minutes in a warm place.
5. Then, roll out dough into a large rectangle or square on a floured surface. Cut square into five long strips and then cut those strips into squares. Place squares on a parchment lined baking sheet and spray with cooking spray.
6. Preheat oven to 400 F. Bake beignets for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden. Dust with powdered sugar and eat warm.
Enjoy & Until Next Time,
My family and I Love Fresh Baked French Bread. I have never had the guts to try and bake it myself until today. To my surprise it was pretty simple to make. So I will definitely bake it more often.
So let’s get started and you can see just how easy this bread is to bake.
6 C. of Flour (I did 3 Cups of All Purpose and 3 Cups of wheat)
2 1/2 C. of Warm Water
2 TBS of Yeast
1 TBS of Sugar
1 tsp of Sea Salt
3 TBS of Olive Oil + more for later
Add yeast and sugar to the 2 1/2 cups of water. Let it sit for about five minutes until you see the yeast get all bubbly on top.
In a food processor or bowl add Flour, Salt. Mix to combine. Add water mixture and oil mix until pulls away from the sides of food processor or bowl.
Knead the dough 6-8 times. Place in an oiled bowl to rise for 15-30 minutes.
Once your dough has risen. Cut dough into 2 pieces. Roll into French Bread shape. (Makes 2 loaves) Place on a parchment lined and oiled baking sheet.
Score the dough and lightly brush with Olive Oil. Place in a 375° pre-heated oven for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Now enjoy a bread with a nice crusty and crackling outside and soft inside.
Add some marinara sauce, cheese and dried oregano for a French Bread Pizza. Melt with your favorite cheeses for an appetizer or simply add butter.
Happy Baking & Enjoy!!!
Until Next Time,
I have been craving something sweet…..so I decided to try out lemon cookies for the 1st time. When they were all done…..I called my super tasters to try them out. They gave the recipe a thumbs up…..so that means it’s time to share.
6 tsp butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup Squash Puree
1 teaspoon lemon zest*
3 tablespoon fresh lemon juice*
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cup All Purpose Flour
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside. In a food processor or large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add squash, lemon juice and lemon zest. Beat until well combined. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir just until they are combined. Place the powdered sugar in a small bowl and set aside.
Scoop about a tablespoon of the cookie dough and roll into a ball. Repeat with the rest of the dough, press dough with your fingers to flatten a little. Bake for about 10 minutes, or just until the bottoms of the cookies begin to brown and the cookies are no longer shiny. Remove from the oven and let rest for a minute or two. Next transfer cookies to a wire rack to completely cook. Store cookies in an airtight container.
Enjoy & Until Next Time,
I believe that this is my third biscuit recipe. For any of those recipe’s click here and here. My youngest and I LOVE a good biscuit. I was trying out something slightly different than I have in the past. Since it turned out so well, it’s only right that I share. So let’s dive in.
(the top is all purpose and the bottom whole wheat)
4 C. of All Purpose Flour (this works well with wheat or whole grain)
2 TBS. of Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 1/4 tsp. of Sea Salt
1 1/2 C. of Plain Almond Milk
1 TBS. + 1/2 tsp. of white vinegar
5 TBS. of Cold Butter (cubed)
Pre-heat oven to 450°
In a food processor add your flour, baking powder, baking soda and sea salt. Pulse for 10 seconds.
Add butter pulse for about 15 seconds.
Add vinegar to Almond Milk, mix to combine (it will look like curdled milk)
Add milk mixture to food processor. Pulse for 15 seconds. The dough will look crumbled…..this is perfect, we want DELICIOUS FLAKY BISCUITS.
Flour your surface, knead dough about 6 times. Now using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to 3/4″ thick. Using a biscuit cutter or cup, cut out your biscuits and place on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Place in your 450° pre-heated oven until golden brown for about 15-20 minutes.
