1 Box of Whole Wheat Lasagna Noodles (I prefer Bionaturae Brand)
1.5 Pounds of Ground Turkey
1 package of Chicken Sausage (I love Trader Joe’s Chicken Breakfast Sausage Links)
½ Cup of chopped Onions (yellow or white)
½ Cup of Yellow, Red and Green Peppers (I get the frozen bag from Trader Joe’s)
1- 6oz package of Baby Spinach
4 tsp of ground flax seeds (optional)
¼ – ½ Cup of Water
1 ¼ tsp of olive oil or oil of choice
1- 67oz Jar of Prego or sauce of your choice
1 bag of Shredded White Sharp 7-8 oz
1 bag of Six Cheese Italian Blend 7-8 oz
Muenster (usually comes in a block or slices….which means you will have to grate the block or cut up about 6-7 slices)
¼ tsp Salt
½ tsp Black Pepper
2 tbsp Onion Powder
2 tbsp Garlic Powder
¼ tsp Herb Provence
½ tsp Oregano + ¼ tsp will be needed later
1 tbsp of Mrs. Dash
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
Wash and dry spinach
Cut up and mix all the cheeses together in a bowl and set aside
Cut up onion and green peppers and set aside
Take the sausage out of casing and cut up in to bite size pieces
Bring salted water to a boil. Add ¼ tsp of olive oil or oil of choice and then add your box of Lasagna Noodles. Cook the noodles for about 4-6 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Pre-heat a pan on the stove on medium high heat add 1 tsp of olive oil or oil of choice
Add your sausage to the pan and cook until completely cooked. Then set aside in a bowl.
Add your Ground Turkey to this same pan. The juices and the oil from the sausage will give the turkey greater flavor. Add about ¼ to ½ cup of water to the pan to keep the ground turkey moist. When the ground turkey is nearly done add your green pepper and onion and cook until the turkey is browned. Next add your salt and spices to the ground turkey to get it well incorporated. Now add the sausage to the ground to get it well incorporated and remove from the heat.
Now get your Lasagna pan. (I use a non-stick pan that is 16”Long X 13” Wide X 3” Deep). Lay your Lasagna Noodle across the bottom of the pan. For the pan I used it takes 6 noodles to cover the bottom of the pan, Now add 1 ½ cups of spaghetti sauce, add your ground turkey mixture, add 2 tsp of ground flax seed across the ground turkey, add half of your bag of spinach, add some of your cheese mixture. Now repeat Noodles, 2 cups of spaghetti sauce, ground turkey mixture, 2 tsp of ground flax seeds, spinach and the cheese mixture and add your last layer of Lasagna Noodles, 1 ½ – 2 cups of spaghetti sauce
Place in your pre-heated 350 degree oven for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes
Once done take out of the oven top it with the last of your cheese and take ¼ dried oregano and sprinkle across the top cover with foil so that the cheese on top melts.
Once it cools a little it is ready to serve. I serve the Lasagna with a wonderful salad and I cut up a French baguette add garlic butter and a little cheese and lightly toast for a 3-5 minutes. You will have what kids call Garlic Cheesy Bread.
